When it’s ok to have McDonalds

Usually I’m opposed to eating American fast food while I’m traveling. Why eat something that’s virtually the same as in the US? In Croatia, I learned differently.

I went to McDonalds and ordered a “Bacon Rosti”, which seems to be quite popular. It consists of a hamburger with hash browns, bacon, and mayo on a Parmesan-topped bun. I’m not really sure who came up with this combination. I think the one I was served was a little heavy on the mayo, but was otherwise edible, which is probably the best compliment you can pay McDonalds. I seemed like breakfast food to me, but was clearly not being marketed as such.

Looks delicious, right?
Lesson leaned: I’m willing to eat McDonalds while traveling, as long as I order something that’s not on the menu at home. I think the way McDonalds is localized in various places is a cultural experience of its own.
